Ingredients

  • 2 pounds russet potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream warmed
  • 1 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Optional: fresh parsley chopped, for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Potatoes:

  • Peel and cube the potatoes. Place them in a large pot, cover with water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Mash the Potatoes:

  • Drain the cooked potatoes using a colander. Return them to the pot and mash with a potato masher or ricer until smooth.

Add the Cream and Butter:

  • Gradually mix in the softened butter and warmed heavy cream until the potatoes are creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve:

  • Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Potato Type: Use russet or Yukon Gold potatoes for the best texture.
  • Make Ahead: Mashed potatoes can be made ahead and reheated with a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
  • Extra Flavor: Add roasted garlic or cheese for a flavorful twist.
